A Remembrance Day Service and Wreath Laying will be held at the Port Findlay Cemetery located at 243 Hardwood Drive, Desbarats commencing at 10 am on November the 11th, 2026. By remembering, we pay tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP who served to defend our values and freedoms. We also honour those who continue to serve our country today. Algoma Power requires an electrical service interruption for all customers fed from the Desbarats substation including: Desbarats, Laird, Pine Island, Diamond Lake and any associated side roads Reference #46 Saturday November 7, 2026 Alternate date: Saturday November 14, 2026 between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm This interruption is required for substation upgrades. For safety reasons please do not perform any work in conjunction with this outage. All customer work requires direct planning through Algoma Power’s Customer Service Department. While outage work is performed as effectively and efficiently as possible, circumstances may arise that shorten or extend these events (such as equipment failure, inclement weather, scope of work, etc). Algoma Power regrets any inconvenience this may cause for our customers.
Residents may have noted some preliminary road work on the south/west portion of Town Line Road which is being prepared for resurfacing in 2027. To date, the road has been pulverized and graded from Hwy 17 to Mill Road. Ditching will also be completed before winter. The gravel will be maintained regularly, and will remain in place until the contractors begin resurfacing in the summer of 2027. A precise date for that work to begin is unknown as it is dependent on the contractor’s availability and schedule. This preparatory work is being done so that the material has a chance to settle before it is resurfaced in the summer of 2027. Council and staff thank everyone for their patience while the material settles, and we await the upgrades to occur next summer.
